The fantastical violinist Lindsey Stirling took a leap into the virtual world to showcase some of her new music! Stirling performed a live concert using the Wave VR gaming platform in what appears to be a growing trend among musicians. Watch the full show below!
Equipped with a full body-tracking suit, The Wave VR syncs a musician’s movements in real-time with an avatar loaded into a digital concert venue. Musicians are able to customize their avatar, and the design of the digital venue, to suit whatever purpose they want.
In the case of Lindsey Stirling’s concert, she was able to create a simulacrum of the world behind her upcoming album titled Artemis. At the beginning of this live stream, Stirling goes into brief detail about the meaning behind the album and the virtual world that she created in the Wave, saying it was inspired by the moon.
Lindsey Stirling was able to take the world-building of her upcoming album to new levels. She went into several monologues throughout the showing, further adding to the lore behind her album. Concert attendees and their avatars appeared as stars in the sky where they posted comments that Stirling responded to in real-time.
Is this the future?
The Wave VR is definitely becoming one of our favorite venues for catching dance music from the comfort of our homes. Just a few weeks ago, we attended Kill The Noise’s virtual concert. Before that, we talked about Rezz debuting her latest EP in the same virtual reality video game. Virtual reality live shows have also taken place on Minecraft and Fortnite.
