Porter Robinson launches fund to aid childhood cancer in developing countries

Porter Robinson recently teased new music is in the works, which would be the release of his first original material since 2014. More importantly, he recently took to his social media to announce the launch of the Robinson Malawi Fund.

The fund was started in conjunction with the University of North Carolina to focus on increasing the survival rate of cancer patients in developing countries. The fund will work towards building and providing resources for children inflicted by Burkitt lymphoma in Malawi, East Africa.

Burkitt lymphoma form of fast-growing cancer. In 2016, Porter Robinson’s little brother Mark was diagnosed with the Burkitt lymphoma, but he won his battle thanks to intensive treatment at the University of North Carolina Hospital. Since then, Mark has been cancer-free since February 2017. However, for children in Malawi, the survival rate dips from 90% in the United States to as low as 29%.

Porter Robinson’s self-curated Second Sky festival in California’s Bay Area – which sold out in less than an hour – will host a booth for the fund where donations can be made. Robinson stated he will match all the proceeds made and hopes to raise $50,000 or more at Second Sky.

The Second Sky festival is headlined by Robinson’s beloved Worlds live set and opens with a performance from his side project Virtual Self. It also includes l performances from Madeon, G Jones, Nina Las Vegas, Kero Kero Bonito and more. The event will be live streamed on Twitch, and fans watching at home will also have an opportunity to donate.

Second Sky festival comes to the Bay Area’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16.
