The world lost one of the greatest musicians and DJs of all time almost exactly a year ago, and for many devoted fans, adoring colleagues, and his beloved family, it truly felt like time stood still. With the pain of his death being felt around the world, and though we still might not be ready to hear it, his team has announced a new posthumous album entitled Tim, with the lead single SOS dropping April 10.
A statement credited to “Avicii’s team” associated his family as the deciding factor in moving forward with the release of this album. “The family decided not to keep the music locked away — instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world.”
According to the latest press release, the Swedish musician had a new album on the verge of completion days before his death. He left a collection of “nearly finished songs along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music.” His songwriting collaborators have assisted in completing the process, attempting to align with his vision for the album and to carry on his passion he injected into every bit of music he ever created.
His family also announced the creation of the Tim Bergling Foundation, which directly benefits organizations involved with suicide prevention and mental health. They also wanted to be clear that the musician’s net profits from this new album will be donated to the charity.
Tim is set to be released on June 6, and the EDM icon’s final album will feature artists including Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Aloe Blacc. We can only wait to hear those first notes with broken hearts and lots of tissues. Peep the story behind the album here:
