Porter Robinson’s Second Sky Unveils Full Lineup, Adds Second Day

The full lineup for Porter Robinson’s Second Sky Festival is here! Announced last week, the festival is set to take place in Oakland, CA. All nine acts were curated by Porter himself and reflect many of his own artistic values. Madeon, Cashmere Cat, G Jones, Nina Las Vegas, Anamanaguchi, Kero Kero Bonito, and Wednesday Campanella will all make appearances.

Each announcement was accompanied by in-depth commentary from Porter, drawing attention to how carefully he curated the lineup. To top it all off, Porter will be playing his only Worlds Live set of 2019.

As for tickets, pre-sales for Second Sky went on sale at 10 am last Wednesday morning, and sold out instantly. Although many fans expected this, it seems Porter Robinson and his team didn’t see it coming. In an attempt to ensure that all fans can attend, Robinson announced a second date with all of the same artist except G Jones just two hours later. Astoundingly, the second show also sold out within moments of pre-sale opening, making Second Sky a certified smash hit in its first year.

Unfortunately, it looks like anyone who missed the pre-sale will have to purchase tickets from a secondhand source. Right now tickets for the first date are running nearly $200 on StubHub, more than double their original price. The second date is slightly better, but still at $160. There may be hope for the festival to reclaim scalped tickets, but we definitely wouldn’t bank on it.

The top-billed artists are all familiar to dance music fans. Madeon, of course, is making an appearance, though it seems fans can expect a DJ set instead of an appearance of Shelter Live. Cashmere Cat and G Jones are also always crowd favorites and are sure to please.

More surprising is Nina Las Vegas’ inclusion on the lineup. She’s made a huge impact on the dance music scene over nearly two decades. Nina Las Vegas is also well-known for killer live performances, with incredible skill behind the decks. Chrome Sparks represents the more underground dance music scene with his chill beats.

Perhaps the most interesting part of Second Sky is the way it diverges from a purely dance music lineup. The lineup almost feels like a personalized mixtape; attendees will really get a good look into Porter’s musical vision. Anamanaguchi is a band from New York that clearly connects with Porter’s anime-influenced sound. Their sound also heavily recalls early video game music, and their songs are both sickeningly sweet and highly danceable.

Porter also included two powerhouse groups who play with J-pop styles. British indie pop band Kero Kero Bonito features half-Japanese frontwoman Sarah Bonito who raps in both English and Japanese. They hover perfectly in between English pop quirkiness and easygoing J-pop influenced production.

Wednesday Campanella is also a force to be reckoned with. Their sound is a true fusion of EDM, J-pop, and hip hop, combining all three genres in a unique way. Frontwoman KOM_I brings unbeatable energy to both their songs and performances. Overall, the group’s musical sensibilities are absolutely remarkable; no two songs of theirs sound exactly the same. Not only does KOM_I add her own unique touch to every touch, but the production is also notable for how impeccably clean and fresh it is.

It’s clear that this festival will be a one-of-a-kind experience. Despite the name change dispute with a local festival, Second Sky looks like it will be a force to be reckoned with if it continues in future years. It’s rare to get a lineup this diverse, and especially rare for a lineup to be so carefully curated but such a major artist. We’re excited to see what’s in store.
