2018 was a quiet year for one Sonny Moore, better known as Skrillex. The dance music megastar played shows sporadically, while putting out very few releases. He had collaboration EPs with JOYRYDE and Pendulum, but no solo music. He even threw out a video of him in the studio with former production partner Boyz Noize, hinting at the return of Dog Blood.
These teases, as well as footage emerging of him playing unreleased material at Contact Festival last December, made way for the album rumors to start flying. We were anxiously anticipating a huge announcement, when suddenly…
“You know, people have been asking me about when I have a new album coming out, and it’s a little strange, because I never said I was making an album” – Skrillex, Billboard 2019
In an interview with Billboard earlier this month, he explained that he would not be putting out an album any time soon.
“I’ll release some new music soon, but I’m just trying to do it organically. At the same time, I still love to make music, and I’m obviously working,” he told Billboard.
Well, whenever we get the chance for a new Skrillex album, his first since 2014’s Recess, we will be anxiously awaiting it. In the meantime, check out the collaboration between Moore and Japanese producer Utada Hikaru for the new theme music for Kingdom Hearts 3, and keep your ear to the ground for more Skrillex news!
