2. Bassnectar: The Voice Behind the Genre

Bassnectar’s live show is one of those that should be on any raver’s bucket list. When he’s not innovating and changing the way dubstep is heard, he’s out changing the way it’s seen by the rest of the world. And even if he’s had his own thoughts on the death of the genre, there’s no denying that without him, bass music wouldn’t be quite the same.
Known to his familiars as Lorin Ashton, the California native is one of the most well-spoken artists in all of dance music. Whether he’s explaining exactly what dubstep is, imparting his wisdom on rampant drug use in the wake of tragedy, or leading a cause to help clean up trash after festivals, more often than not his voice is the one we latch on to when trying to make sense of the scene as we know it. In the midst of all this, somehow he even finds time to put out a full-length album almost every year, including his latest one featuring a collab with one of the PNW’s native sons.
