5. Bass labels have never been more prolific

Even the surface level of major record producers points toward an intriguing trend for the genre. OWLSA, Never Say Die, and Circus Records for many years formed the holy trinity of bass labels. Still though, they’re not alone, joined by Rottun Records (owned by Excision), Smog (12th Planet), Firepower (Datsik), Impossible (KJ Sawka), and Monstercat (home of artists like Pegboard Nerds and more).

A genre is only as good as the people who help foster the next generation of artists, and without a diverse collection of labels, that becomes nigh impossible. Nowadays, if you’re an up-an-coming bass producer, odds are there’s a home for you under someone’s umbrella, whether it’s Jeff Abel’s over at Rottun, or with KJ Sawka at his ever-growing Impossible Records label.
