[divider]Excision – Codename X[/divider]
Canadian artist Excision released his second studio album, and first since 2011, in February of this year, setting the bar for the rest of dance music’s 2015 albums. Codename X, which was released by his very own Rottun Recordings label, is quintessential Excision as his very best, and brings back countless flashbacks to his legendary Shambhala 2014 set. The album is available to purchase on iTunes, and features some of our other favorite artists, like Pegboard Nerds, Downlink, The Firm, and MC Messinian. A worthy album from one of bass music’s figureheads and most influential artists, Codename X will have you throwing your X’s up in no time.

Reminding us all why drum & bass deserves to be more than the forgotten EDM sub-genre that it often is, Spor’s Caligo is everything about why we love DnB. Spor began as the initial guise of British producer Jon Gooch, as the now 30-year-old was immersed in the emerging sound of drum & bass throughout his formative years. Since expanding to other genres and methods of expression with alias Feed Me, Gooch had left Spor in the past, not releasing a tune via his youthful alter-ego since 2012.
Released via his own Sotto Voce label, Gooch unleashed Caligo on February 19th after hinting at an upcoming Spor album for months. From the first listen, to the countless listens that follow, Caligo delivers both what we want, and what we didn’t know we wanted. Full of energy and incisive lyrics, Spor’s dark vibe shines through tune after tune. Another aspect of the album that’s great is that it’s free, as Gooch made it available to download via BitTorrent, at a price of your choosing. We’ll cross our fingers for a Spor show in Seattle, but it may be a ways off, as we were just treated to Feed Me at Foundation.
