[divider]Consolers of the Lonely (2008)- The Raconteurs[/divider]
One of our favorite sets from Coachella 2015, Jack White is another incredible musician on this list that we want incorporated into the dance music scene. He’s music to the core, and his technical ability is only surpassed by his imagination and passion for art. White’s known for his unique and old-school blend of lyrics, melody, and intricate simplicity that puts his music on a level with the very best, regardless of genre.
One of our favorite works from White’s eclectic collection throughout the years The Raconteurs’ second studio album Consolers of the Lonely. The album received a Grammy Award nomination for ‘Best Rock Album’ and includes a bunch of great tunes. Salute Your Solution, The Switch and the Spur, Top Yourself, Five on the Five, These Stones Will Shout, and Carolina Drama are all songs that we’d be more than a little interested to hear get the EDM-treatment. The producers who take this project on would need to have a skill that White has flowing from every orifice: storytelling. While much of dance music is repetitive and formulaic, and repetitive, remixing Consolers of the Lonely will take more than a build-drop methodology for success.
[divider]Money Sucks, Friends Rule (2014)- Dillon Francis[/divider]
A fan-favorite, and that certainly includes DMNW, Dillon Francis is welcome in our ear-buds anytime. We loved his debut studio album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule, despite it’s slight departure from the sound and style that drew us to the moombahton-maestro. No stranger to remixing, whether it’s of his own tunes or others, Francis’ is seemingly always making his way into various genres and working with a wide variety of artists. He’s re-worked Daft Punk, Galantis, Zomboy, and even Justin Timberlake, while his tunes have been remixed by the likes of Doctor P, TrollPhace, and Dillon Francis himself, all with great success.
His obvious talent for creating fun, energetic, and easily enjoyable songs makes any of Francis’ surprisingly large catalog of tunes perfect remix material. His touch on his own tunes is another aspect that we’d love to shine a light on, and a remix album would accomplish that perfectly. It’d be cool to see Francis’ ‘re-birth’ the entire album, but a compilation a la Zomboy’s Resurrection is a more likely, and just as suitable, result. We’re excited for his upcoming moombahton EP, but while he’s putting the finishing touches on that, Francis should hit up some of those friends that rule and get a remix album going.
