Maybe we need a giant block of cheese. Or perhaps coffee would be the best route. Regardless of what it takes, deadmau5 needs to perform in the Northwest as soon as possible. Deadmau5, also known as Joel Zimmerman, hasn’t played (publicly) in the Northwest since a show at the Paramount Theater in Seattle in August of 2011. His 2014 album, while (1<2), is one of the best of the year in dance music. There’s also no doubting the outspoken Canadian’s ability to put on a good show. He’s played major venues across the world and even filled-in for Avicii on short notice at Ultra Music Festival 2014. He definitely takes full advantage of the bright lights and cameras (Fast forward to the 29:30 mark of the video below for an example). He’s one of the major figureheads of dance music; this reason alone is enough to justify our need for a speedy Northwest return.
Skrillex
Arguably the artist of the year in dance music, Skrillex’s lack of Northwest shows has been a pattern throughout his huge 2014. Skrillex, also known as Sonny Moore, has answered critics doubting his (and dubstep’s) longevity with an acclaimed debut studio album and accompanying tours across North America and Europe. Released in March of this year, Recess set the table for a string of successes that doesn’t seem to be losing any steam. Moore’s collaboration project with Diplo, Jack Ü, has also taken off, with an album reportedly in the works. He hasn’t performed in the Northwest since appearing at Bumbershoot 2012 and, although we’re disappointed that it hasn’t happened already, we’ll gladly board the Mothership whenever it returns.
We’re sure there are plenty of other artists and acts that the Northwest dance music scene would love to host, so let us know who you’d like to see! Comment below, on Facebook, or reply on Twitter!
