TOKiMONSTA
Dusk was fading down quickly, and soon the breath-taking sight of the Gorge was consumed in complete darkness. Holding hands to not lose one another in the masses, the only visibility was the luminescence of glow sticks leading the way from the mainstage to what we hoped was the next dance Saturday night dance party. Up ahead, the El Chupacabra tent, lit up like a glowing haven, lured us in like fireflies. Making our way inside the quickly filling tent space, twirling blue and red lights spun around overhead, and three massive LED screens projected lively and colorful visuals. This had pure potential to get wild, everyone’s faces exclaimed in agreement. A petite woman took to the decks of the stage, with long hair and a delicate demeanor. Inside we were secretly wishing: Please, TOKi, let them see the best of our electronic world and what it’s all about! But anyone who’s familiar with TOKiMONSTA knows there’s nothing to worry about. If there were any doubts that this girl could handle the mass of people coming in with a demanding desire to get down, they were brushed away once she opened up her set. Starting off with a low and groovy house-meets-r&b sound, the people inside immediately responded with nodding heads and antsy feet. Reading from the crowd’s reaction, TOKiMONSTA progressively built the party up with old school hip hop reworks mixed with futuristic trap beats. Electronic music gurus and newcomers alike were maximizing their allotted personal space with all the dance moves they could fit in. Soon the tent was packed to the absolute maximum, but the relatively intimate setting and underground feel was one florescently flourishing Sasquatch moment we will always remember.
