As we all know, last year’s festival season was one for the ages in the province of BC. And if you’re anything like the team at DMNW, then you straight up love music festivals. But not just EDM festivals, all types of music festivals! Although the beats running through our heads are mostly filled with computer glitches, wobbly basslines, and sounds from another planet, that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy the organic crunch of a live band from time to time.
That’s why DMNW is bringing you a guide to 5 BC festivals that fall outside the definition of an electronic event. Festivals that hand pick the best artists from the world of music, no matter what instruments they play! But don’t worry, each of these gatherings still have some EDM elements buried somewhere in the lineup. After all, we wouldn’t want you to feel out of place.

Our first option for your summer celebrations awaits you in the form of the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival. While skankin’ may or may not have been a part of your past, if you read this publication it’s definitely a part of your present. The dance world would sound very different these days if ska and reggae didn’t exist, as they lend so much to the sounds of hip-hop, dubstep, and drum & bass. What started as a school project has blossomed into the longest running ska festival in North America, bringing with it some legendary names over the years.
