Self-described as Treepunk, Kithkin brings a unique sound that finds its own unique, mesmerizing space between electronic and punk. Composed of Alexander Barr, Bob Martin, Ian McCutcheon, and Kelton Sears, Kithkin seek to evoke the energy and spirit of the forests of Cascadia with their music. The ethereal sound achieves this goal beautifully, utilizing such unfamiliar instruments as a Theremin and incorporating eerie chanting to create the right feel. Their most recent album, Rituals, Trances & Ecstasies for Humans in Face of The Collapse, is 12 tracks of Northwest beauty. O’Cascadia, their second to last track on the album, perfectly evokes the rainfall heard so often in the rainforests of the region from which it takes its name.
Kithkin’s sound takes you on a journey, ranging from mellow to loud energy, another way in which the mimic the constantly changing weather patterns of the Great Northwest. The vocals are at times sweet and comforting, other times on songs such as Peacock becoming a growl that is impossible to not be drawn in by. Fallen Giants, one of the singles off of Rituals, Trances & Ecstasies for Humans in Face of The Collapse, brings an excitement guaranteed to stir the crowd into a frenzy while challenging them to think about what they are hearing.
Kithkin will be performing on Sunday, July 27th at 4:00pm on the Vera Stage.
