Robert DeLong’s intoxicating energy means you’ll be a sweaty but happy mess after his set.
Robert DeLong may be best known for his hit Global Concepts but he has an incredible depth to his live performances that is challenging to capture in text. This is one of the sets we are most excited for at Block Party and for good reason. Hailing from just north of Seattle Robert’s mastery of live mixing is something not easily found. His stage presence reminds us of a modern-day one man band with his ability to sing live, drum, play cowbell, keyboard, all while mixing it live through the power of the MacBook and various controllers at his disposal.
His onstage movements speak to the energy pulsing through his body that enables him to do what some bands need several people to do. Standing still during a DeLong performance is all but impossible, as the lyrics to Global Concepts challenge us to answer the question “Did I leave my life to chance or did I make you f***ing dance?” For us, the answer is always an emphatic YES! when we are fortunate enough to see him.
Along with his previously mentioned hit Robert DeLong has a gift for remixes that far surpasses what is typically put out by other artists. He captures the original energy of the song but morphs it into something even more beautiful than the original. Some examples of this are his take on Just Say It by The Mowgli’s and Treasure by Bruno Mars, both songs that are not originally electronic but take it on so beautifully under Robert’s guidance. His remix of Treasure evokes the same energy we get from Dada Life’s Kick Out The Epic Motherf***er, something that we obviously don’t mind. We are greatly looking forward to becoming a sweaty dancing mess along with the rest of the crowd during Robert’s set.
