“Simply put, the current state of trance in the northwest is fragile.
Just like with anything else, fads come and go. Certain regions will adapt to fads at different times. Between trance and the northwest specifically, we have seen this notion. Back in 2014-2015, our neighbors up north, the Vancouver Trance Family had a golden age of trance. They had so many trance shows to choose from, sometimes up to three events on the same night. This was great at first, but eventually hurt their scene. The Vancouver trance bookings started to slow down, and as of today my friends from Vancouver are the ones asking me for a couch to sleep on during the weekends where we have trance shows down here in Seattle. Nothing against Vancouver, I love them, and I am good friends with several of their members, but I think there is an important lesson for all of us to learn here.
The moral of the story here is that the state of trance is still growing in our region. Trance sales are up and down, and what we need to strive for is consistency. This will generate over time. We need to gain momentum, together, and I think we are already headed the right direction.
Over the past year, Digital Ascension cultivated his brand The Sounds of Trance (TSOT). This became a sanctuary for trance lovers when there were no other trance shows going on. I had the honor of partnering with Bobby on his brand, and I believe we really helped start a great movement. More recently, MarQ, local Seattle DJ and event organizer has started a cooperative within the trance community called Seattle Trance Alliance (STA).
Today, STA is working together with TSOT to take the movement another step forward by teaming up. This is a great start but it is only the beginning. We must all continue to work together to keep this momentum going. Trance thrives on the concept of family and togetherness, if we use that to our advantage then we will reach our full potential.”
