[divider]3. Redefining The Word “Mainstream”[/divider]
In recent years, “mainstream” has practically become a dirty word when talking about EDM. One by one artists have been trying to distance themselves from falling under that label to varying degrees of success and failure. To Justin Prime though, that word has lost its meaning.
In my opinion mainstream is only a different word for “success.” In the end, it’s all music.
When it comes to “mainstream” music, Prime sees only the positives that come with welcoming more fans to the fold. The more fans that feed the industry, the more our favorite artists can be inspired to bring us the music we love and cherish so much. Taking that mindset into the studio, Justin makes sure that the only concern is “mak(ing) music that comes up in my mind, and maybe sometimes it’s more mainstream than underground or the other way around.”
Justin Prime is a breath of fresh air in popular dance music.
That attitude of making music for the sake of the craft itself is one of the many reasons Justin Prime is on the cusp of becoming one of the top DJs in the world. From his success collaborating with Showtek on his rise to prominence, to his willingness to not let that fame define him, it’s safe to say this is a name we’ll be hearing plenty of in the future. In the meantime, we’ll get to see Prime firsthand in the Northwest in just a couple weeks.
