Spor Is Back With BBC Radio 1 Guest Mix, New Track

Jon Gooch’s drum & bass persona Spor is back, and in a big way. After releasing a remix of The Prodigy’s latest single Nasty last month, Gooch is continuing to add to the already agonizing anticipation leading up to the release of his next album, Caligo. The debut single off of CaligoAs I Need You was premiered via Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show last week, and Spor was the featured guest mix on Friction’s BBC Radio 1 show on Monday.

The mix is 30 minutes long and full of unreleased Spor tunes, none of which will be appearing on Caligo. Friction also interviews Gooch, also known as Feed Me, for a few minutes before the mix begins, providing some insight into his return to Spor, the mix, and the upcoming album.

“[Spor] kind of represents my childhood, I suppose. I was using the name Spor for artwork and tagging before I was even doing drum & bass…. It’s like putting on an old outfit.” Gooch said. “I actually feel different when I’m doing it. I guess creating masks and different realities for myself has been how I’ve coped and dealt with my life all the way through.”

Producing music and touring as Feed Me in recent years, Gooch expressed the need for the right medium to say everything he wanted to, in the way he wanted to. Something that he couldn’t do at times with Spor. Now, the creative juices are flowing, and we’ll be hearing plenty from Spor, and Feed Me, soon.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been as productive as I have been lately. I’ve been doing like 24 hours at a time in the studio… I’m doing a Feed Me album at the moment as well, working with a lot of vocalists and songwriters.”

Caligo will be released on BitTorrent on March 9th, and digital stores on March 11th, via Gooch’s own Sotto Voce label. The first batch of Spor tunes since 2012’s Ziggurat/Push Me, Pull You EP, Gooch is making the album available for whatever price you choose to pay, or not pay. Gooch explained the choice to utilize BitTorrent in a recent Facebook post, citing the nature of Spor, and the appeal in having the album live as a self-sufficient shared container that’s everywhere and nowhere at the same time, replicating and spreading.

You check out Spor’s BBC Radio 1 guest mix here, which includes a full track-listing. The interview begins around the 60-minute mark, with the mix following shortly thereafter.
