Local Heroes PDX is the Event Series Portland Has Needed

There is a new event series in Portland, and it has the right idea. Local Heroes PDX brings local DJs together to play House, Techno and Disco. Combining art, a desire to help others, and a love for music. We recently attended their second event, Local Heroes Volume 2, and it was impressive.

We could go on and on about how great this event was, but that would not do the event, or people justice. There are so many things Local Heroes PDX is doing, that makes them stand out from the rest. Here is what Local Heroes PDX is doing right, and what Portland needs more of.

Acceptance

There is a feeling of acceptance, and community. Every person we interacted with was enjoyable, and attendees were there for the music. While you could have drinks, the event was not centered around that. Everyone in attendance was there to support the music, art and each other.

Location

Local Heroes Volume 2 was held in a large all white studio. With an all white space, the color was created by the attendees, DJs, and the music. DJs set up close to the center of the room, allowing for a much more intimate feeling. You were able to go all around the DJ booth, and really get a feel for what they were all about. Want to snap a photo with the DJ while they are playing? Go for it!

Music

Every DJ that played had their own ideas, taste, and feel, and Local Heroes PDX provided them an amazing outlet to share their ideas with other DJs and attendees.

Fairly priced drinks

Though they did not focus on alcohol, they did provide it for a good price. They had wine and beer for only $4. We don’t know about you, but we have never been somewhere that you can get two drinks for under $10.

Helped a good cause

When you attend a show put on by Local Heroes PDX you are not only getting to listen to great music, but you get to help a good cause as well. For this event, 10% of their ticket sales went to the California Fire Foundation.

It is rewarding to be able to watch a group of talented individuals do something inspiring with their art, and with such care. Being able to listen to great music all day doesn’t hurt as well. There is no doubt that Local Heroes PDX will succeed. We will keep you posted on their next event, but to keep up to date for yourself, and find out more information, check out their Facebook page.
