Porter Robinson Hints At New Project in GQ Japan Interview

In a recent interview with GQ Japan, Porter Robinson is quoted as saying he’s “planning a new project.”

Coming in on the heels of Virtual Self’s success, including a Grammy nomination for Ghost Voices, it’s no surprise that the electronic music wunderkind wants to return to his original name.

It is interesting to note that all signs still point to a new release from Virtual Self before a new Porter album ever sees the light of day. This new song, God Rays, was performed at his recent sold-out shows at the Shrine in Los Angeles.

Although Robinson wants to keep both projects completely separate, it’s certain that his Porter Robinson DJ sets have drastically shifted in tone. Instead of the solely Worlds-based sound that fans grew to love back in 2014, he’s started playing more downtempo music.

He might still play some of his favorite tracks off of Worlds, but he’s no longer the electro-pop Porter Robinson of a few years ago; instead, he’s slowly moving back towards a truly dance-based sound.

Either way, we’re excited to see some new Porter Robinson releases for the first time since Shelter. A new live show wouldn’t hurt, either.
