PLUR: A New Years Resolution Worth Keeping

Congratulations on successfully making through another year of life! New Years for some is a symbolic “reset button” in their lives, and annually millions of people across the world set resolutions to get a fresh start. In this day and age though, most of these resolutions are a far stretch from reality, and most won’t stick with them much after the end of January. Resolutions can range from switching to a new diet, abstaining from alcohol, or getting to the gym. While we don’t discourage anyone from setting a goal, we would like to share one resolution that’s worth keeping, and easily so.

Within the dance community, there is a commonly known acronym of P.L.U.R. To the uneducated, some would see at as another rave culture slang term that has no applicable use outside of a warehouse full of dancing bodies and kandi. However, PLUR is easily the most relevant acronym in today’s culture, and should be shared with everyone within, and out, of the dance community. The wonderful thing about it is that it’s not limited to the Kandi Kids, Bass Heads, and Ravers; it’s simply a way of living life as a good human being should.

What makes this dance community so beautiful is the level of acceptance it has. People do not pass judgement and accept you for who you truly are. PLUR simply stands for Peace, Love, Unity and Respect; and it’s these 4 words that form the core beliefs of the dance community. But they don’t stop having power once we return to the “real world.’ Applying PLUR to daily life is so incredibly simple that most people may not even know they’re doing it. Simply put, we wish each and everyone one of you to carry on the spirit of the community well beyond the dance floor.

Simple acts of kindness are like the plague, they are infectious and spread everywhere. A helping hand to a friend in need, a hug to someone feeling down, or holding the door open for a stranger. These things carry their weight in gold, and it’s those small acts of PLUR in daily life that will not only improve the lives of others, but yours as well. Remember, we’re all one big family and this planet is our home, let’s not lose sight of what makes human life special; the fact we’re alive.

So, for 2016 we invite you to the simple challenge of carrying out a single act of PLUR each and every day. Eventually it will no longer feel like a challenge, and become apart of daily routine. We guarantee you’ll see a drastic change in the quality of your life as well as a spike in happiness. Wishing you all a Happy New Years and look forward to seeing your smiling faces on the dace floor.
