Paul van Dyk Overcomes Obstacles with New Album “From Then On” [Review]

German producer Paul van Dyk is back in the game again with another amazing masterpiece From Then On, an LP he started working on shortly after his accidental fall at a festival in 2016. The album was released through Vandit Records on October 20 and it’s already receiving rave reviews.

Prior to the album’s release, “AEON by Paul van Dyk” was unveiled as a new live show concept that he said would be all about “a celebration of trance, life and unity”.  Between these two unveilings, he proves that overcoming obstacles to open new doors is the only way.

After he fell 20 feet from the Main Stage at the A State of Trance Festival (ASOT) in 2016 he was airlifted to a nearby hospital and after assessing him, the doctors did not have a positive prognosis. It was found that he fractured his spinal cord in two places, and to top it all off, he had a severe brain injury. After slipping in and out of consciousness for three days, he woke up and started the long and painful journey of recovery. He attributes his successful recovery to his fiancee and the many fans of his who wrote him uplifting messages and sent him cards.

Quite simply, his recovery is a medical miracle. This album celebrates his shift between the before and after of the life-threatening injuries he sustained.

From Then On is a big treat for all of the lovers of Trance music. Paul van Dyk has never wavered in keeping true to his unique style. While many Trance DJs eventually shake it up by infusing other genres into their tracks, he has never wavered in his commitment to his longtime fans.

While You Were Gone sets the tone for the album by starting out with with a magical classical piano score. The piano mixed with underlying subtle beats form the classic Trance sound that we’ve all come to know and love from Paul van Dyk.

The title track From Then On is an uplifting journey that is quite symbolic of the constant state of flux that life is. The high-energy track is intertwined with hard-hitting bass notes that drop off in a subtle manner through moments of quiet.

Paul van Dyk’s From Then On is proving to be an absolute masterpiece thus far, with the album already reaching No. 1 spots in many of the world’s international charts. He proves time and time again that his passion for music will never die, despite all of the obstacles that life throws.
