Recently, KOAN Sound’s signature glitch-bass style has taken a psychedelic left turn into softer, more introspective offerings. Their latest EP collab with Asa took us on a journey to the stars, with its simple orchestral beauty. Hard bass kicks were few and far between, replaced instead with calming strings and uplifting vocals. Listening to that EP, it was hard to believe that the Bristol duo was even the talent behind it. For KOAN Sound’s newest track Dynasty though, they’ve united that sound with their classic approach.
All the beauty of the Sanctuary EP remains, but this time there’s an infusion of crunchy midtempo bass that meshes with the ethereal new style KOAN Sound has become so invested in. Meant to act as a lead-in to the Dynasty EP release April 1st, it demonstrates the fascinating evolution of KOAN Sound from funky glitch all to the way to a groundbreaking new genre-mash.
