Instagram launched a new account dedicated to exploring music around the globe and connecting artists to the fan community. Each week, the @music handle will explore different sides of artists you know and love while also introducing you to new up-and-coming talents from around the world.
“The music community is –– and always has been –– an important part of Instagram. For the past four years, we have become the home for artists big and small –– a place where people across the musical spectrum come to share stories, reveal their creativity and connect directly with fans.”
The new @music will highlight music photographers, album illustrators, instrument makers and, of course, fans. “In the Instagram tradition,” announced via an official Instagram post, “we will also welcome community participation with a new, music-themed monthly hashtag project.”
Though the post was signed by Founder and CEO Kevin Systrom, according to Billboard, the content will be overseen by Jonathan Hull, head of strategic partnerships/music for Facebook and Instagram, and Alex Suskind, Instagram’s music editor. Buzzfeed also adds that the channel will post once daily Tuesday through Sunday, and will feature short profiles and music lessons.
