Pezzner Hosts First EPIC Party at Re-Bar

We are living in a music world vastly different than the pioneering selektors of EDM. Even with Max Graham regularly coming through to do an open to close, solo acts have become rare. Seattle’s Pezzner is looking to change that by hosting and headlining the inaugural four-hour, open to close set for a new event, EPIC, at Re-Bar on April 1 (No, this is not a joke!).

For the music lover looking to make the most of their hard-earned cash, attending a festival is a great way to get the most bass for your buck. These days, we are lucky to see a two-hour set for any artist on most lineups. However, playing for six to 10 hours a night, four nights a week without a sync button used to be the life of many DJs.

When Tony Humphries, Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan pioneered club nights in the beginning, they used their extended time on the decks to tell stories through sound.

The modern DJ has more tools than ever to move a dance floor at the club. Internet access and terabytes of data storage mean no more lugging crates of vinyl or kicking yourself when you left the perfect track at home. But having enough music to go the distance is only part of the equation. And sync, cues, and looping are available even with the most basic setups. So how do they do it?

Mixmag asked the best in the world what they do to prepare. Check it out for some cool history and what you could expect from a DJ going the distance.

Could marathon sets make a comeback? Could you dance to the same DJ all night? Let us know in the comments below!
