Dance Music Is For Everyone: Why Your Family and Friends Will Love EDM

The all-encompassing Americanization of dance music that is currently known as EDM, or Electronic Dance Music, offers something for everyone–yes, everyone. EDM can be enjoyed in a variety of ways by a variety of people, and no matter what your tastes are in other styles of music, it’s a subculture that provides something your ears will beg for again and again. Whether it’s the physical and mental health benefits, or the different ways one can enjoy it, this much is certain: you don’t have to be a raver to love dance music.

At its most basic level, a raver is defined as someone who goes to a rave. Of course, the current generation of dance music fans define ‘rave’ differently than past, but that’s for another article. Regardless, one has many ways and reasons to enjoy EDM outside of being the modern-day view of ‘EDM fans’ or ravers. Yet, due to the connotations and stereotypes surrounding EDM and their artists, many who could benefit from listening to dance music are instead ignoring it as just another fad.

Many of us who consider ourselves part of what others would call ‘EDM/Rave Culture’ enjoy it for numerous reasons. The people you meet, the experiences you have, the life-long memories you gain, the dreams you dream, are all possible due to dance music.  When we try to explain to others why the connection is so strong and so real, it can be difficult.  Words like ‘raver’ and ‘EDM’ have become associated with drugs and partying, not the deep, lasting connections and experiences with music, people, and ourselves. We’ve compiled some benefits of enjoying the dance music scene that some may overlook when judging it before giving it a shot.

NOTE: This is not to say that being a raver is bad or that being viewed as such is bad, nor that everyone will or should enjoy EDM. Rather, that it’s an inclusive and expansive style of music that’s for and can benefit more types of people than the mainstream, stereotypical view of ravers.
