Thinking about buying some new music? TODAY IS THE DAY. Because Bandcamp will be donating 100% of their sales today to ACLU! Yup, you read that correctly. In response to last weekend’s White House immigration order, Bandcamp has taken on the role of philanthropist, and plans to give directly to an organization that could definitely use the help in times such as these. You may remember something similar making the news back in November, when Eprom made all his tracks available via Bandcamp, “pay what you can.” All proceeds were donated to Planned Parenthood in response to Trump’s announcement that he would be discontinuing funding to the much needed organization. Meanwhile, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) advocates individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in the country, and as you can imagine, are currently ramping up to fight some big fights. In response to the immigration order, ACLU was able to raise over $24 million dollars in just two days, six times what they normally get over the course of a year. Now thanks to Bandcamp, and anyone who buys some music today, there’s even more help on the way. And with over 200 labels and artists already committed to the cause, it looks like a cause that is well supported by this community. In case anyone was counting, that makes two major statements by Bandcamp in less than 3 months. Statements which both speak louder than words about the current situation that we are all faced with. Go Bandcamp! Shawn McNicoll Part man, part buffalo, part maple syrup. Pretty much the Canadian version of Grizzly Adams.
