A State of Trance 845 Christmas Special: Top 50 Tracks of 2017

The ASOT Christmas Special was quite the treat!

You voted and the results are in! On December 21st Armin Van Buuren and Ruben De Ronde brought to us the top 50 voted trance tracks of 2017. Its no surprise the hosts went all out for this four hour edition! With Christmas themed suits and beer in hand these two celebrated a year that was jam packed with amazing music.

We begin at number 50 with Concrete Angel by Gareth Emery feat. Christina Novelli (ReOrder Remix). The feels start to creep up alongside the nostalgia of summer. The original was released in 2012, but ReOrders touch on the track brings it new life.

Just over halfway through the episode, we revisit a more recent track that still skyrockets off the charts. At number 24 is Northern Soul by Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford. Trance fans from around the world (including some of our DMNW team!) had the epic opportunity to hear this track well before its release date in November. During Group Therapy 250, at the Gorge Amphitheater, Above & Beyond played Northern Soul for the first time. Hearing a new track for the first time is quite the treat, but sharing that experience with thousands of people is indescribable.

The Top Track

In order to announce the number one track of the year, Armin introduced Ian Standerwick in studio. Ian worked with Gareth Emery on the track Saving Light feat. Haliene. This song is something special not just for its musical merit but because its creation had such meaning behind it. The title of the track was created to give credit to those who are supportive during someone’s time of need, being their Saving Light. In the first month of its release all proceeds were donated to Ditch the Label, the anti-bullying charity.

As the episode wraps up, Armin brings out one last guest to send us off. It was none other than Josh Cumbee, the vocalist for Sunny Days. Sunny Days (club mix) made the top 50 list at number 3! To end the episode, Josh sang a special version of the song called Christmas Days.

Happy holidays and a special shout out to the one and only Armin Van Buuren, whose birthday was also on December 25th.
