7 Easy Techniques For Getting Better EQ Results

1. Don’t Use It

Seriously.  Don’t touch it unless it’s totally necessary.  EQ is by far the most commonly abused plugin in a young producer’s arsenal.  Being one of the quickest ways to change your sound, it can also be the most dangerous.  It’s very tempting, when unhappy with a sound, to throw an EQ on it.  This fix it in the mix mentality can destroy a mix.

Professional mixes sound so stellar because the sounds they begin with are of the utmost quality.  No matter what anyone tells you, crap in always equals crap out.  If you’re not happy with a sound – recreate it.  Your instincts are probably right.
