3. Exploring A New Community & Keeping It Special

Big Dub was inspired by the principles of Burning Man with a raver-centric ‘PLURR’ approach. Our generation and our EDM culture is inspired from the 1960’s, and these smaller events put every little detail into bringing it back. It’s not everyday you can go up a campsite to get free fried Oreos, to discussing open relationships without judgment, learn how to spin poi or flow properly, or learn about BDSM (yeah you heard right) for no additional cost. Each workshop offers humor, creativity, and a wholesome environment unlike any other. They want you to have something to take away from their events and the chance to make new friends. The ticket sales contribute to the growth of something beautiful with just a small idea to bring people together.

Jaleel Khan, Head of Promotions at Big Dub notes how “every year we have a goal to out do ourselves from the previous years. It’s a failure to us if someone says ‘The Big Dub before this was much better,’ so every year we plan on raising the bar and competing against ourselves because we are determined to make the next big dub experience that much better.”

4. Supports Other Small Organizations & Acts

When you support small business, you support all small businesses. The people who put on the production, lighting, sound, visuals, it’s all done by different people. Additionally the smaller artists working their way up get the spotlight on them and are picked specifically to showcase their talents to new people. Big Dub introduced patrons to local artists like Atom C, Jake Dukes, Kyng of Thieves, Gaby Noodle, Soley and Seattle’s new addition Bad Ginger! Aside from music, there were performances, workshops (large and small), live painting, and more!

5. Do Good, Feel Good!

If you don’t support local promotional groups from the bottom up, you’re going to miss out on all the fun. Find a home in the underground, where the music is good, you’re doing good for the community, and your dollar goes a long way.

Check out one of Seattle’s newest promotion groups Noise Complaint. They will be hosting events the second Friday of every month at Kremwerk, showcasing supreme talent for an affordable ticket price with a sensual vibe.

From Jonathan Cats, co-founder of Noise Complaint:

“Honestly, we want to bring in national headlining artists and show case them in an intimate venue. ‘Big on talent, small on size.’ Also, there’s a lot of really really talented artists that are maybe not ‘big’ enough to get booked at the larger clubs, but people in Seattle deserve to see them! Lastly, we want to create a family vibe. A vibe that is respectful of the music and the people and their individuality. We want people to feel like they are at a house party with all their friends.

We also want to be able to consider ourselves tastemakers where people can trust the artists we are bringing through to absolutely kill it even if they haven’t heard of them. Every artist we book is someone we can get behind musically, someone we vibe with, and someone we would want to see. We aren’t just taking every booking that is coming our way and I think that shows in who we’ve booked over the first 3 months.”

If you want a truly unique experience, support the underground: You won’t be disappointed!
